Profile: Briar Patch Outdoors
This past April I had the pleasure of meeting George Hedgepeth, the owner of the "Briar Patch Outdoors" survival school located in upper state Michigan. George has a unique conversational approach to teaching that is very practical and very "hands on". He is also a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and is able to convey lessons to his students in an extremely humble manner. As George says, he teaches "a way"... not "the way". I think this perspective is important because it allows the student to learn openly in a manner that enhances their existing knowledge base. Another refreshing thing to see is that George teaches survival skills as a method to stay alive... but also a means of appreciating the natural world.
